This is the first time ever I have enountered this rare coffee table. It is well documented in the both Artimeta catalogues of 1956 and 1960. The 1956 catalogue contains the creations of Mategot, and also the well-known name ‘Copacobana’ refers to the chair and table designs by Mategot. However, the 1960 catalogue describes this table designed by Floris Fiedeldij, who was the owner of the Artimeta factory. Mategot has designed the first products under contract for the Artimeta factory and it is most likely Fiedeldij, who owned all the rights, later put his name on it.
Typical hallmark is the perforated metal ring which the frame is made of. Quite heavy, stable and solid feeling table, though looking very light. The black marbrite reflects and displays beautifully.
Very good and original condition. Black 6 mm heavy marbrite glass, smooth surface ( usermarks consistent with age, no chips ) Other side of the glass has profile. Very symbolic for European modernism, great opportunity.
