Teak nightstand by Auping, 1963. The fine teak material makes a warm complement to the dark grey ( matt black ) metal frame which gives a floating, light appearance to the cabinet.
During the sixties, many European furniture companies started to produce teak furniture in the modernist Scandinavian style. Dutch company Auping worked with a number of famous designers such as Rietveld, Cordemeyer, and Kramer. The style is clearly influenced by the designs of Cees Braakman and Pastoe, in particular the Japanese series. This nightstand is pictured in the ‘Goed Wonen’ decorative magazine from the sixties.
Good condition, restored.
