True midcentury Dutch Design classic, this small but comfortable and durable made sofa designed by Cordemeyer for the Dutch Gispen company, 1950ies. This model is called 1712. It has the Dutch Originals sign, that means it is an original by Gispen licenced re-edition from the 1990ies.
The sturdy angular shapes, open metal structure and use of sheet metal are typical fifties hallmarks. Though the Gispen company made its first steps in the Bauhaus tradition, their fifties designs are clearly influenced by modernist furniture and lighting designs by Prouve and Perriand. Together with Pastoe, Ahrend de Cirkel and Pilastro, Gispen was leader on the Dutch market in modernist metal furniture design during the 20the century.
Very good condition, foam and wool fabric feels and looks almost new. Minor usermark on the back, out of sight. Great middle-blue color, black frame, all inspected.
