ADJUSTABLE FLOOR LIGHT MODEL ‘6320’
DESIGN: WIM RIETVELD 1953
PRODUCER: GISPEN CULEMBORG
MEASUREMENTS: H 170 CM
PRICE: SOLD
Very symbolic post-war design, this very rare adjustable floor light model ‘6320’ by Dutch designer Wim Rietveld who made the design for the Dutch Gispen company in 1953. After 1953 it was only produced for a couple of years, and the production stopped as soon as the famous Panama light turned out to be a greater commercial succes for the company.
The striking asymmetrical position of the insect-like base together with the optimistic color scheme are typical hallmarks of modern fifties design, and though it was designed for more than 60 years ago, it still evokes a remarkable timeless atmosphere as well. Mark the great finishing details; the construction of the mechanism of the adjustable light weight arm and aluminium shade, the wiring that has been decently covered, the solid metal heavy base and the heavy duty floor switch.
This is a valuable asset for any design collection and in particular of Dutch industrial classics.
