This is the largest model of the Pileino series, and also the most rare. The tube base of this light can be easily removed, so the top can double as a large table light. The design is typical Italian late sixties. The futuristic shapes evokes many assocations and it’s not surprising this model has also got a part in the 1970ies science fiction cult series ‘Doctor Who’.
The tube base has a solid metal base, that keeps the light stable. Manufacturers name, model ‘Pileo Mezzo’ and designer die cast in the base ( also in the black base of the top part ) The lamp has one normal E27 lightsource, suitable for modern LED bulbs if desired.
Very good condition: the plastic is free of melting areas, warping, severe yellowing or cracks. The thick plastic is egally off white, and it is clear it wasn’t exposed to sunlight light over the 50 years of it’s existence, so this is a great opportunity for a very original piece in very good condition. Wiring replaced, floor switch original. All working checked.
Gae Aulenti is one of the few well recognized women in postwar design. Aulenti made a name with a broad spectrum of elegant and innovative work for a.o. Zanotta, Artemide, Guzzini and Tecno.
