The name Tomado is an abbreviation of ‘ Togt Massa artikelen Dordrecht’. After the second world war, Dutch company Tomado became very successful producing small, affordable household equipment and created with this book shelves probably one of the most symbolic post-war designs, reflecting the new era of consumer prosperity and technological progress.
Besides the regular colored wall systems Tomado also developed several bigger shelves and other parts, which have become quite rare nowadays. At the time it was also possible to order teak-veneer shelves, called ‘Afro-teak’, inspired by the Skandinavian examples designed by Nisse Strinning. Nowadays this Tomado shelving units are well-known all over the world.
