GISPEN CHAIR DESIGN 116

DESIGN: WIM RIETVELD 1953

MEASUREMENTS: H 76,5 W 58 D 52 SEAT H 43 – 44

PRICE: SOLD

True Dutch design classics created by Wim Rietveld for Gispen Culemborg. Very stable and comfortable chairs due the rubber shockmouths in the back and under the seating parts. The 116 chair has all the halmarks of the progressive rod-steel furniture designs from that same period made by Elsrijk, Pilastro, Knoll and Eames.
This model 116 chairs are not very often offered with the black bakelite armrests, so great opportunity here.
Overall very good condition, some normal marks.

The Dutch Gispen furniture company was founded in 1916 by industrial designer Willem Hendrik Gispen (1890-1981) and mainly produced steel ( tubular ) furniture for home and office. Until the 1960ies of the 20th century the company worked with several famous Dutch designers such as Gerrit Rietveld, Wim Rietveld and Andre Cordemeyer.
