Arteluce was a significant part of the first wave Italian companies that was capable of mass-producing innovative, functional lighting. The company was founded in 1939 by Gino Sarfatti, who created most of the designs. Occasionally the arteluce designs, and particular the ‘sphere and ring’ systems, were executed for special commissions. The well known example is the interior lighting of the ‘Teatro Regio’ ( Turin, Italy ); the fixtures were applied to balustrades and pillars, in different sizes and compositions. The floor light offered here was also executed for a special commission in that same manner; the light is higher than the standard ‘1094’ light, and the origin of the light was a public building. A 10 kilo solid flat metal base has been created which keeps the light very stable. The fixture has been restored completely with all the original materials and parts, wiring renewed. This great light can be used in your home or gallery right away.
The reputation of Gino Sarfatti rests on his drive to engage in new materials, and in the quality finish of the products. Many of the lighting designs created by Sarfatti are known for its well executed organic lines and some have a remarkable floral appearance, which is complemented by the use of delicate materials such as frosted glass, aluminium and brass.
