Rare Ate van Apeldoorn piece, this small ( 100 cm wide ) writing desk or table design. Van Apeldoorn’s work should be seen in the context of the Dutch functionalism, together with Gerrit Rietveld and Bart van der Leck. This desk design is exemplary for his admiration for Rietvelds work.
There are no decorative elements, all attention is focused on the appearance of the natural wood grain structure and the striking finger joint wood connection of the 3,5 cm thick panels. The origin of van Apeldoorns work can be found in the hand-crafted house-hold and wood related decorative items, that van Apeldoorn made from the late 1950ies. Great condtion ( stools and gadgets not included ).
