Rare and fantastic shaped wall lights made in the 1960ies by the Raak lighting company. In the last ten years I have encountered these lights only once. The lights are made of a hourglass shaped metal case holding two curved opaline perspex parts to provide a comfortable diffused light. Typical 1960s hallmarks are the black and white Op-art color contrast and the ‘lizzard skin’ black paint. Both good condition with minimal usermarks.
Dutch company RAAK Amsterdam has manufactured a large number of great lighting designs and was one of the Dutch leaders in developing progressive lighting during the fifties, sixties and seventies. The designs are often sophisticated and characteristic and they captured the spirit of these decades very well. The company’s design team worked with national and international designers ( E.J. Jelles, Frank Ligtelijn, H. Sneyders de Vogel, Ton Alberts).
