Very powerful ‘graphic’ designed wall sconce, made out of folded sheet metal elements which are fixed together by a metal wall suspension. Behind these elements a small fluorescent tube ( TL ) fixture is hidden, which provides a diffuse light to the surroundings and give accent to the graphic shapes. Great piece for a midcentury modernist or minimal interior. Capture the artistic spirit of the late sixties very well.
The design is clearly inspired by the ‘Nul kunst’ art movement ( Jan Schoonhoven ), the reaction against the expressive ( Cobra ) art of the fifties. Their objective style, that was cleared from any emotional intent, was the Dutch representation of the international minimalism and Op Art movements of the sixties.
