GERRIT RIETVELD
TEA TROLLEY CA 1945
MEASUREMENTS: L 82 X H 63 X W 48 CM ( approximately )
PRICE: SOLD
Real curiosity: this genuin tea trolley designed by furniture designer and architect Gerrit Rietveld (1888-1964) in circa 1945. Rarely being offered, because of the limited edition it was made in at the time, and due to it’s vulnerability. This item is a typical product of the postwar Dutch furniture; it is almost entirely made of wood, as it was prohibited in the Netherlands to make furniture of metal parts during the first years after World War II.
An identical trolley – but painted off white – forms a part of the collection of the Centraal Museum Utrecht (CMU inv.nr. 27089). The youngest daughter of Gerrit Rietveld stated that her father designed the trolley in 1945 for a private customer in The Hague. Provenance: an important private collection. Condition: original, exept for 3 small nails which have been recently replaced.
Materials: beechwood, pinewood, multiplex
