Pop-art influences and Maurer’s fascination for the bare bulb has resulted in this powerful sixties design called ‘Pollux’. Strictly, the design is only a bulbholder, so the focus is completely on the bulb here. This small table or wall light was one of Maurers first design for his company ‘design-M’. The heavy base keeps the light stable when the cylinder is positioned diagonally.

Late 1950ies, Ingo Maurer graduated as a graphic designer. Soon he moved to the US, where he worked as a freelance designer for a few years. After he returned to Germany, he started ‘Design M’ in 1966. His first design was called ‘Bulb’; a giant bulb made of chromed metal and glass, which is probably his most famous design. His work is featured in numerous museum collections worldwide.
