Two rare metal wall lights or better: lighting sculptures, produced by the Raak lighting company in the 1960ies. Documented in the Raak catalogue model nr c 1608 ‘Schelpdier’.
The fixtures are made out of thick, heavy casted aluminium holders covered by dark brown matt wrinkle paint. White inside. The lamps has the feel and looks like they are made of ceramic.
Very refined design that evokes many associations with all kind of organic shapes from nature ( sea creatures, shells, snales ) to modern art.
The modest size and the dark ( indoor almost looking black ) color makes it a perfect set of lights in any Dutch design vintage interior.
Fixtures are suitable for build-in-wall up to 240 volt. Each light has one normal E27 porcelain bulbholder suitable for modern LED bulbs. Wiring replaced.
The designs of the Raak company are clearly influenced by the designs of Stilnovo, Gino Sarfatti and Ingo Maurer.
