In 1955, these characteristic two-tone timber ‘Pirkka’ dining table was designed. Very organice branch-like leg structure in black lacquered birch with the typical ‘split top’ in natural pine. The appearance of these skandinavian furniture references strongly to traditional country furniture.
Late 1930ies Tapiovaara graduated as interior architect from the department of furniture design in Helsinki. He worked as designer at furniture company Asko ( Finland ), and during World War II, Tapiovaara designed field furniture for the Finnish army; only wood could be used because no nails or screws were available at the time. After the war Tapiovaara and his wife designed furniture for Domus Academica in Helsinki and designed the famous Domus chair. Tapiovaara also designed interiors for several companies starting in the early post-war days.
Very charming and warm piece in a used but solid condition, and can be used right away.
