This famous ‘Panama’ wall light was designed by Wim Rietveld for the Dutch Gispen company in 1954, and together with the floor and table light of the same series it became an instant commercial succes.
The optimistic color scheme and the Panama-hat shade are typical hallmarks of modern fifties design. Sturdy articulated black metal arm and tomato red shade, great finishing details and very complete; it has the rare original diffuser, the original red spanner and a complete wall suspension with back part.

The Dutch Gispen furniture company was founded in 1916 by industrial designer Willem Hendrik Gispen (1890-1981) and mainly produced steel ( tubular ) furniture for home and office. Until the 1960ies of the 20th century the company worked with several famous Dutch designers such as Gerrit Rietveld, Wim Rietveld and Andre Cordemeyer.
